This week Justin and I show you how to make a fantastic lamp stand out of old books. I love this project and I think you could have a great time scouring second hand shops for beautiful antique books. Think gorgeous embossed covers with hints of gold on a background of dark red, deep blue or rich green to place beside your bed or on your writing desk. You could also have fun looking for colourful children’s books with quirky titles to place in a children's room.
I wear one of my favourite vintage dresses in this episode too, a 1950s soft pink chiffon dress with the tiniest blue, pink and cream dots with a pleated skirt! I also wear some of my own dahlia inspired brooches. www.tamsincooper.co.nz
We visit some very interesting and talented people too, from the maker of blokey can cars www.cancars.webs.com to Margaret Stove from Lyttelton who creates the most amazingly fine lace knitting that has even been commissioned by the Royal family! www.margaretstove.com. The Boiler Room www.boiler-room.co.nz also offers up some brilliant upcycled and much sort after interior pieces.
I travel very close to home when I take you to meet the very talented artist Lynn Taylor on the Otago Peninsula. Lynn shows us the ancient craft of book binding. I loved making my own book and apart from the terrible rain felt totally inspired by Lynn’s work and her incredible studio which was full of her own art and amazing collections. www.facebook.com/pages/LynnTaylor
I found this episode truly inspiring to make and now quite fancy binding my own notebooks to fill with my designs and musings. I do hope you are inspired as much as I was.
Justin and I look forward to seeing you again this Sunday Night 7pm TVNZ Heartland Sky channel 17
