Textiles, Fashion & Jewellery - "Hearts in Crafts" Episode 12 TVNZ "Heartland" Sky Channel 17

Episode 12 is right up my alley in fact it is all the genres of design that I love wrapped into one show! Fashion, textiles and jewellery, who could possibly ask for more! Well there is more as I was delighted to also visit beautiful New Plymouth where I learn to throw a pot and meet one of the country’s oldest potters groups – The New Plymouth Potter’s Club. Somehow Justin and I also have time on this episode to make some great lino cut cards…phew it is a totally packed show that I know you will enjoy.

Oh and as an aside I wear two of my favourite vintage dresses….in studio it is a mint and chocolate polka dot long sleeved shirt dress with my own huge velvet poinsettia brooch.  When I visit The New Plymouth Potters Club I wear another 50s dress in the most divine shade of cobalt blue teamed with a wee contemporary hot pink jacket and accessories!

The amazing craftspeople that we introduce you include contemporary jeweller Nga Waiata www.ngawaiata.com who creates a range of stunning crystal and native timber rings and pendants from her home based studio in the sunny Hawkes Bay. Her jewels are highly coveted in fashion circles around the world and can be found at Barneys in New York, fashion designer Paul Smith in the UK and the luxurious New York Standard Hotel. Nga Waiata’s jewels can also be found locally in design stores throughout the country.

Nelson woman Norelle Kendrick has a passion for knitting big and small. The five time finalist, three time winner of her section in the Bancroft Estate World of Wearable Arts Awards, has recently developed her own range of hand knitted designer babywear visit her on Facebook www.facebook.com/norellek

Textile artist Miranda Brown  www.mirandabrown.co.nz is inspired by nature, New Zealand and a concern for the environment, and so are her beautiful designer woollen fabrics and garments and home wares.  Her designing career began at the age of 12 when she made her first three piece suit and she hasn’t looked back. Miranda is well known for her work as a costume designer in television and film including credits on Hercules and Xena and The Lord of the Rings.
